About a Lens
Inspired by stargazing aficionados around the world who wanted an easy way to capture the moon and beyond, the Opteka 650-1300mm f/8 Super Telephoto Zoom Lens incorporates lens elements from telescopes into a simple, sturdy, comet-capturing design.
Features
- High Definition Multicoated Optics
- Locking Push/Pull Focal Length Selector
- Inner Focusing Non-Slip Manual Focus Ring
- Rotating and Lockable Tripod Collar
- All-Aluminum Alloy Body
- Includes Metal Hood, Lens Case with Carrying Strap, and Caps
Designed with 6 (including 1 super low dispersion) ultra high index elements in 5 groups, the lens has been designed for resolving power in high contrast situations.
Opteka's High Definition anti-reflective muticoatings have been applied to each of the lens elements, suppressing flare and ghosting while maintaining color fidelity.
Despite the durable and lightweight aluminum alloy housing, the heft and length of this lens necessitated an integrated tripod collar to minimize motion blur when photographing at slower shutter speeds. The collar also rotates, enabling you to adjust the orientation of your camera without having to change the position of your tripod or monopod.

In the spirit of an all-manual shooting experience, a locking push/pull zoom mechanism has been employed to ensure your chosen focal length and aperture don't change once it has been set.
The wide, non-slip rubber manual focus ring controls an inner focus mechanism (the length of the lens does not change throughout the entire focus range), which aides in the prevention of accidental focus changes, or focus drift sometimes associated with bigger lenses.
While the lens also requires exposing your scene manually (either in "M" manual exposure mode or "A" aperture-priority mode), with some exposure know-how "S" Shutter Priority will also work in many daylight situations with Auto ISO enabled.
Whether exploring the night's sky, photographing wildlife from a safe distance, or capturing a close-up of your kid's winning touchdown, the Opteka 650-1300mm f/8 Super Telephoto Zoom lens is a staple in any photographer's bag — especially when you wish you could get closer.
